It has been a tiring Sunday..
Some of us who went for Copa Iba came back with tired bodies, aches, and sore throat..

And there was also the ride to the airport for a certain farewell and welcoming back..

And yet, we were able to brave through all these to catch an event that should never be missed - the World Cup Final!!

So.. for those who do not already know, there have been 2 huge stars at this year's FIFA World Cup - namely Spain and Paul the octopus

Prior to the Final, Paul the octopus (who has been used as an animal oracle to predict football results) has wisely chosen Spain over Holland to lift this year's World Cup trophy..
The Dutch would've imagined the worst as Paul has almost been 100% correct coming into the Final..

Holland then had to come out with an extraordinary strategy to prove to the world that Paul can sometimes be wrong..

It wasn't gonna be a very pleasant strategy and for those of you expecting a friendly match, boy were you wrong!

But Spain (somewhat fortunately) did not crumble into the dirty tactics of the Dutch, and eventually emerged victorious!

Ego 1-0 JTan

JTan has a friend.
His name is Ego.
He's not a very good friend.

JTan admits.. today, he let Ego control him.
Bad, bad Ego.
And bad, bad JTan for allowing Ego to control him.

So what happened?

It all started with a missed turning.
First, JTan's lousy driving caused him to be on the wrong lane - wanted to take a right turn (which would've made our lives easier) but had to go straight since the traffic lights were green for straight and red for right.
Well, "It's alright," JTan thought, "there's another road which leads back to the road we wanna be on."
So everything settled? Mission accomplished? Back on the same road?
No. JTan just had to miss that particular "road which leads back to the road we wanna be on."
*tries to hide embarrassed face*

Well, "No worries," JTan thought again, "this road we're now on seems to be heading towards another road which will eventually lead us back to the road we wanna be on."
YM gave a good suggestion to make a U-turn.
But Ego came into play. Ego suggested that JTan was correct and had good reasons to believe he was right. Well, at that time, neither Ego nor JTan realised that Kampung Pandan is actually NOT Pandan Indah.
So did JTan take YM's advise? Obviously not.

After about 5 minutes, JTan finally realised his mistake.
*tries to hide embarrassed face again*
It's a bit too far to U-turn now. JTan was thinking hard, "Where in the world does this road leads to?" And after passing by the Rain Tree Club, he thought, "Hey, this road actually leads to another road which will also eventually lead us back to the road we wanna be on. Woohoo!"
He had a feeling that he was supposed to turn left. But took a right, he did instead. And once again, Ego told JTan that he's right. There's no need to call for help from others or ask them for advise. Moreover, JTan's sense of direction was supposed to be quite good. So he thought.

After another few minutes, MK called. At the same time, JTan kinda realised he made another judgement error once again.
*wah, really no face to hide this time*
MK suggested another route - which will lead back to "the road we wanna be on." - a way faster route but involves the toll.. a price to pay for letting Ego win.
AL made a brilliant request by asking HY to take the lead this time.
*paiseh.. JTan really, really has got no more face to hide*

In short, we got to our destination in time.
But we could've reached way earlier if JTan hadn't allowed Ego influence him.

So what has JTan learned today?

Maybe God was trying to teach him something today.

It is important to have a teachable heart.
When one is stubborn and self-centred, it's a bit difficult to have a heart that's humbled enough to be taught and corrected.
There should be less of ourselves and more of God.
May He help JTan to develop a humble and teachable heart, ever ready to admit his mistakes and be corrected.

Anyway, God is good.
We reached there in time, the rain stopped, we were all able to run, and 3 guys from our group won a medal each.
Hope everyone had fun :)

A friend commented that there's another lesson that JTan can learn from this - should have listened to women's direction advise. I think JTan would hate to admit it, but the 2 ladies who were in his car ystday had better signs of direction than him.

Aside from YM's earlier advise, JN was practically leading JTan through KL - and should I add that she's not from KL?

Epic fail.

After the attack on an 11th place of worship?
After the breaking in of the office of the lawyers representing the Herald in the "Allah" issue?

Doubt it will end so soon.. the numbers of churches and other worship places being attacked are increasing, and those in authority are still trying to divert the attention somewhere else (Anwar, Dr. M's book, etc. .. gosh, do they really think it will work?)

I can't help but feel frustrated over all that's been happening

Does Hisham still thinks that everything is under control?
Well if things are going as they've exactly planned it to be, then yes, things are very much in their control... Did they cause all this? Did they initiate it? Were they the ones who stirred things up? Were they the ones giving the green light to all the attacks? I don't know... but it's funny to see how things like this always come to light each time that particular political party is in trouble. You be the judge.

How will all these end?

Giving in and drop the "Allah" case?
Trust me, this will not end it. It will be the one case that will lead to many more to come.
Plus are we going to take God's Name so lightly that we'll allow others to govern how we can call our Lord?

Some have called for fellow Christians to act lovingly and let them win. Will letting them win actually be an act of love? Have we lost the point here?.. it's not about winning or losing.. don't we realise the implications if they were to ban the word from being used by those of other religions?
It not only affects us Christians, even more so to our brothers and sisters in East Malaysia, but also affect other religions such as the Sikhs. Don't we love them too?
And where would this lead to?
If the case is won by the party who wants the word to be banned, this will be used as a precedent to other cases in the future, and will only lead to them banning more words, which is already happening by the way, thanks to the Church who have been keeping silent and allowing those in power to push them to a corner.

Somehow those in power have come to realised that there's one way to keep the Christians quiet and submissive - persecution. It has happened before.. and we have responded in the exact way that they wanted us to respond.. I hope and pray that history will not repeat itself.
I hope we do realise that slowly, the Christians are being pushed out of this country that we love.
Are we happy with that? Are we going to leave it alone? Are we going to be happy enough to leave the country and say, "if they want to have this country by themselves so much, just let them have it lah.." ?
We're here in Malaysia for a reason.. for a purpose.
When will we ever step up to be salt and light at this place where we are?
What will God say when He sees His children abandoning the place He has placed us in?

Lord, forgive us.

Amid what has happened... Metro Tab is probably not the only church affected... I'm sure there're other churches suffering the same fate, but not reported...
Nevertheless, Christians are not called to bring war, but peace... just as Christ showed love even in the time of suffering, I believe Christians are called to do likewise as well.

An end to a chapter leads to a beginning of a new chapter.
Likewise, the end of a year brings forth a new beginning of a new year.

So what is there in 2010 to look forward to?

New challenges and experiences? Most definitely.. can't run away from those every new year.

New hope? Yupz.. hope so.

New datelines? MORE datelines (or deadlines) sounds more like it.. *pengsan*

New holiday trips? Of course! lol..

More friends getting married? Probably not as much as this year, given that most of my friends are Chinese who have superstitious fears about getting married in the year of the Tiger.. Jason and Ruth are an exception.. :)

More importantly, 2010 promises us that the same God that has brought us through the thick and thin of 2009 will once again bring us through 2010..
Things may not be smooth sailing, but He has promise to walk by our side and be our strength and refuge at all times, be it good or bad.

But before we get to all those things to look forward for in 2010, it'll be good to look back at 2009 and see what are the things we can thank God for..

What is inspiring to one, may not be as inspiring to another..
What is exciting to one, may not be as exciting to another..
What is a challenge to one, may not be as big a challenge to another..

While not every single one has been blessed, I'm still glad that all could make it for this year's College CG Camp - Apofasi.

It was awesome to some (me included).. maybe not so to others.. but everyone will have to agree that we had the best camp food yet!
As one of the campers put it - "it was cooked with love.." :)

It was fun, yet serious..

It was also relaxing, yet tiring as well..

It was good to be able to play BRIDGE again.. LOL!

It was good to have Annette back...
I feel that I should attend less camps where Annette is the speaker, 'cause at almost everytime during her sessions, I'll feel slapped in the face, kick in the a**, and as if someone's shouting, "There! You asked for it!"
No, I was joking about attending less.. in fact, I should attend more... I need these slapping-kicking sessions every now and then..

All in all, I thank the Lord for He was present at the camp

Now comes the tough part..

We've heard
We've seen
We've felt
We've been inspired
We've been encouraged
We've been challenged

Now what?

There's a lot to think about..
A lot to question ourselves..

Will we answer the call?
Remember Moses

Will we say no to defilement?
Remember Daniel and his friends

Or will we continue as if nothing's changed?
Will we continue to cave into public opinion?
Will we, like Pilate, go with the crowd?
Will we follow the flow, whichever pulls us stronger?

Will we be fighting for brotherhood? Fighting for our brothers?
Remember the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh
Or will we forget about brotherhood and go to war like the 9 and a half tribes almost did?

Will we run towards those who're in trouble?
Will we offer love and help even to those who have fallen into sin?

Are we willing to be an offering?
Are we willing to go for God's glory?
Remember Nehemiah
Or will we just decide to remain comfortable?

Are we willing to listen to God's voice?

And when the time comes to decide, to make an apofasi, let us not make it alone..
We are a family.. a brotherhood...

Will we be there for one another?

Through ups and downs, thick and thin, frowns and smiles.. even in craziness... :P

I hope so... :)

And to a dear friend who has answered the call...
All the best to you as you brave yourself for a new and probably challenging adventure..

It's all happening too soon...
But well, like I've said, you're just an AirAsia away..

The Tale of 4 Stadiums (and an unrelated Platform)

Once upon a time, there lived 4 stadiums.. namely Old Trafford, Emirates, Stamford Bridge and Anfield.

Old Trafford lived in Manchester.
Both Emirates and Stamford Bridge were from London, while Anfield came from Liverpool.

Over time, they became among the most well known stadiums not only in England, but in Europe as well.

A traveller once asked them, "Which of you is the best?"

Old Trafford, with full confidence, claimed to be the best among the 4.

Indeed, it was very impressive and fully deserved to be called the best!

Emirates roared in disagreement, claiming to be on par, if not better.

Well, it is after all the most modern stadium among the 4.. but whether it was the best of not remains debatable.

Stamford Bridge was not in a very confident mood, knowing that its facilities and size could not match that of Old Trafford and Emirates.

Nevertheless, it was quietly confident that it was not the worst.. lol...

And finally, the *clears throat* worst of them all - the title was always gonna go to Anfield..

Being one of the oldest may not do it much good after all... but who knows, they might be undergoing some kinda restructuring soon enough if some rich Russian or Arabian buys over Liverpool FC.

This is an actual letter written to bank manager by an old lady who got her check bounced by the bank due to lack of funds. it was first published in the New York Times in 2006.

Dear Sir,

I am writing to thank you for bouncing my check with which I endeavored to pay my plumber last month.

By my calculations, three nanoseconds must have elapsed between his presenting the check and the arrival in my account of the funds needed to honor it.

I refer, of course, to the automatic monthly deposit of my entire pension, an arrangement which, I admit, has been in place for only eight years. You are to be commended for seizing that brief window of opportunity, and also for debiting my account $30 by way of penalty for the inconvenience caused to your bank. My thankfulness springs from the manner in which this incident has caused me to rethink my errant financial ways.

I noticed that whereas I personally answer your telephone calls and letters, — when I try to contact you, I am confronted by the impersonal, overcharging, pre-recorded, faceless entity which your bank has become.

So Christmas day has jst passed here in Malaysia..
I think it has jst turned 26th in the UK as well...

How did you celebrate Christmas this year?

Did the joy of Christmas spread to your household?

Were the songs of carols tickling your ears wherever you went?

What about the spirit of sharing?
Gifts, presents, toys, socks, wine, Christmas turkey - were they present in your Christmas setting?

So how was it for you?

Well, to some.. it may be the same ol', same ol'.
Some may be experiencing their first ever Caroling / Christmas party..
While there may also be those who may not be having a very good time, and may want to just get past this Season as quickly as they can..

For me?
Well, it wasn't really any different as compared to previous years.. maybe lesser presents.. *hinthinttothosegoingawayforholidays* .. LOL!
And oh, I made someone puked... not a very nice way of ending a Christmas day.
Aside from that, the Christmas dinner was good (sorry got no pics to show as I didn't bring my inferior camera with me.. will be waiting for those with power DSLRs to upload them).. the singing was good... the technical team was great... right (joking only!).. LOL!

So what significance do all these have?

Why all the hard labour into making it such a huge celebration?

To some, it's a time to cash in BIG time..
Exploiting the over-advertised 'Celebration of the Year' to get as much as they could before the economy turns for the worse..

Was Christmas meant to be turned into a profit-seeking time of the year?

Well, if it ain't so, what is the purpose of Christmas?

What does it mean to those who are searching for hope, for comfort, for joy?

While the 25th of December may not be the exact date of when Jesus Christ was born, Christians all over the world have always considered it to signify His birth.

Alrite.. so what's so significant about this?

Well, prior to the coming of Christ, people have tried to find their way to God through many ways and methods - perform sacrifices, building high towers with the hope that it may reach up to the heavens, etc. etc.
But they just could not, as none could match God's standard of holiness.. and as sinners (in which all of us are), we just can't come face-to-face with such a Holy God who cannot tolerate sin - can't, unless God did something about it.
And He did do something about it.

He left His glory, and came down to Earth to be one of us.
There was no other way.
In order for us sinners to come to God, God's wrath (against sin) had to be turned away from us as none of us can ever face the wrath of God without perishing.
And only One person is able to do so, only One such person who could match the holiness of God, only One person who could pay the price in our place - God Himself.
Indeed, there was no other.
Thus His coming in the person of Jesus Christ has created a path for us, given us a route, provided us a way to come to Him.
Christ' sacrifice on the cross ultimately and fully paid the price for us all.
He took God's wrath upon Himself at Calvary.

And that is what Christmas is all about.
Such love.
Such grace.
Such mercy.
Such humility, that He was to be born in a lowly manger and not in a grand palace.

It was the beginning of the end of God's redemption plan for us all.

If not because of His love, there would be no Birth,
Without Birth, there would be no Death,
Without Death, there would be no Resurrection,
Without Resurrection, there would be no Redemption,
And without Redemption, there would be no Hope.

Thank You, Lord.. for at Christmas, You have given us hope. Given us joy. Given us comfort. And with this comfort, comes forth peace.

Just when you think there may be a light at the end of the tunnel... just when you think change might actually take place, that the government may have learned its lessons.

Things are not looking good for our beloved country Malaysia.

The recent arrests on RPK (Raja Petra), Teresa Kok, and Tan Hoon Cheng, arrested under the ISA, only goes to show that it's still a long way to go before there may once again be press freedom in this country.

It shows how desperate the government is now.. when things don't go their way, they find courses of action that (they think) will shut the mouths of certain parties who're pressing hard towards presenting true news to the people of this nation.

It's sad... very saddening indeed..

How can one not be angry when reading the news in the papers nowadays.
When will we be able to reach that little light we see at the very end of the tunnel?

Hope.. yes, it is hope that we're hanging on...

Camp has come to past..
But hopefully the memories and lessons would stay.

It was a good time of learning, fun, camwhoring, captainsal-ing and meeting new and familiar faces.. we also had talent-time again after such a long time...

People like Lukas, Mei Yee, Owen, and Kin Yan came back.

And it was good that Tabby.. I mean Tabitha, could join us before she leaves for a whole new adventure at the States.

It was quite a last minute plan, but we still managed to give Mon a surprise birthday dinner at Chili's, KLCC.

A combined effort by both her former schoolmates and her churchmates, which paid out.

Lots of new-found lying talents were discovered among the group.
Very impressive ones as well. Haha.

So here was what took place :

Gee Gee told Mon that they will be having dinner with some camp friends (from POTs) at Chili's, KLCC, after Gaya's convo.

Little did she know that none of her camp friends were going to turn up.
Gee's lying skills - impressive.

Risha and Koon Tim acted well too. Risha promised to drop both Mon and Gee at KLCC (after Gaya's convo), before 'heading home'. Little did Mon expect the 'home' to be the KLCC parking lot.

The rest of us... we just played along.

In short, she found a whole bunch of 'liers' at Chili's waiting for her, instead of her camp friends.

The American then asked, "Why don't you stay out longer and catch more fish?

The Mexican said, "Well, I catch enough to feed my family."

The American then asked, "But what do you do with the rest of your time?"

The Mexican fisherman said, "I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos, I have a full and busy life, senor."

The American scoffed, "I am a Harvard graduate and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat with the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing and distribution. The Mexican fisherman asked, "But senor, how long will this all take?"

Hey Everyone,

A Merry Christmas eve to you..

So how has this Christmas season been for you this year?

Hope it's been a joyous one..

Anyway, just some thoughts over Christmas..

Was having QT this morning and the title was about "The Forgotten Man".
Any guesses about who this 'forgotten man' could be?

No no.. it ain't a Baby, whose birthday we're celebrating. We rarely forget about Him, although we do have troubles letting Him play the main character in our Christmas celebrations sometimes.

Well, it's actually the man who was given the responsibility to help bring up this very special Child.
Yes, it is none other than Joseph, the husband of Mary, the young virgin who took upon her shoulders the responsibility of carrying in her womb the Saviour of the world.

Why are we talking about him? His role ain't as significant.
You think so?

Well, I've always thought so.. I mean, he wasn't the one who was going to suffer the pain of giving birth to a child, who was to eventually die a cruel death on the cross at Calvary.

But then, I forgot one thing... that was he didn't have an easy ride either in this preparation for the most important birth of the world - the birth of Christ.
Having an angel appear before him (though in a dream) must have been a real shock. Not just that. I believe it must have also been terrifying. If I was in his shoes, I would've certainly asked myself, "Why in the world would an angel appear to me now (just before he was going to secretly divorce Mary - so not to disgrace her by making a public divorce)? Oh no, what will God be asking of me?"; I would definitely not be able to sleep well after that.

And if having an angel appear before him wasn't frightening enough, being told to go against what he was planning to do, and to take up the responsibility to be the 'father' of the coming Saviour must have been overwhelming, to say the least.

I would honestly not know what to do if I were in his shoes (probably that's precisely why Joseph was chosen instead of me.. hehe). I would've probably chickened out and let God know that the task was way beyond me, was beyond what I can do.
Well, come to think of it.. it was away beyond Joseph too. But he didn't chicken out. He obeyed. Yes, he OBEYED.

He knew it would not be an easy ride after that. He knew what was going to come.
He knew that people would look at him differently. I mean.. a pregnant virgin? Yeah right..
Well, not everyone believed that with God, all things are possible.
Not everyone knew about Elizabeth, who was at a very old age when she had John the Baptist in her womb.
Not everyone remembered how God brought the Israelites out of Egypt.
And not everyone believed in the prophets, who prophesied about a virgin who were to give birth to our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

With his own strength, he would've failed. With his own efforts, he would've eventually given up. Only God would be able to bring someone through this difficult period.

He had full faith in God. He TRUSTED God.

He trusted and obeyed.

Would you? Would I?

Perhaps, this is something for us to think about...

Birthdays are a special thing.

It may remind us that we aren't getting any younger, yes it does, but aren't we thankful that it also reminds us how far God has sustained us and cared for us.

Had a good and refreshing camp in Kuantan (Care 2 Care). More learning, less rest. Good reminders - an indication that there's a need for more things to be done.

Of course, we had some fun as well - making chewing gum posters, beach games, banana-pyjamas dance, 'SPOON', etc..

Convocations

Congrats to both Yennie and Hui Shi, who both graduated from UM on the 6th and 8th of September respectively..

I missed the throwing sessions for BOTH days though.. sigh.. then again, maybe it was better that way. Won't want to be responsible for accidentally killling someone 'cause of my failure to catch the person. Haha.

But that would make it 2 times in less than 2 weeks!

Never will I do such a thing.. crazzeeeeee!!

Yea yea..

I know what you're gonna say.. "Never say never" rite? I know, I know..

So yea.. we, re-presentatives of HELP CF (should've brought along a CF flag), decided to take up the challenge of hiking up Bukit Tabor, allocated in where else but the emergingly famous Taman Melawati!

Hiking members: Doulos, Amanda, Rachel Puan, Ken Ming, Emily (Ken's friend), Becky, Gavin, Siu Fai, Anna, Shaun, and me..

"We came, we saw, we conquered!"

How?

We came to a hill called Bkt. Tabor and saw that the land was good..

Therefore, it was only fitting that we try to conquer it

As you can see, it wasn't easy.. especially since our army was led by a general (me!) who was less experienced compared to his soldiers

During our conquest to conquer Bkt. Tabor, we came upon.. uuhh.. some obstacles, which almost brought upon the death of the general

Haha..
No lar.. where got so drama wan.. haha

There were some injuries, but that didn't dampen their spirits

Btw, getting injured really isn't as fun as the face suggests.. hehe

"We conquered!"

In the end, it was all worth it! Just look at all the happy and satisfied faces.. OK, Doulos' face expression is a bit weird, but I'm sure he was satisfied too.. hehe

We were exceptionally proud of our smallest comrad, Anna (Peanut) Teoh, who did well in completing the conquering act with us

End of story.. hehe

After a day's hard work, it's time to head back and guess wut we saw on our way back..

I'm officially a GRADUATE now!

After all these years of studying.. really thank God for helping me get through

Convocation was on Sunday (15th April 2007) at Shangri-La Hotel, KL

Well, it was held at Shangri-La because HELP University College has some kind of agreement with the hotel to have their major events there... so yeah.. that's why it was held there

Anyway, I had the opportunity to graduate alongside some other former CF members.. such as Charis, Junita and Serena In. Also managed to see Franklin and Dr Goh in graduation gowns / robes for once.. hehe

Since I didn't have a functioning camera, I had to depend on my friends' cameras. And since I've yet to receive the pictures from most of my friends, can't show too many pics for now.. my apologies to those who're hoping to see Dr Goh's photo here now - "SORREEEE!"

Can you think of anyone else who would leave His glory to come down to die for our sins?

I can't.

Amazing love - yes, that was it. That was what kept Him there on the cross. That was what made Him come down to our lowly Earth.

What seemed like weekness (the cross) turned out to be victory (resurrection)!

Indeed, He gave His all.

What else could we ask for?

He knew that we needed to be saved.. to be rescued. He knew that there was only ONE way, no other way.

It was His blood that took our place in redeeming sacrifice.

Paradox of Forgiving Love

Hhmm.. been a while since I last updated...

Anyway, after being 'interrogated' by a Bible study group (members of the group will know who they are) about some issues regarding our future love partner, been thinking a 'lil about what love really means..

I kinda realised that we, humans, tend to love only what we like. We mix with certain people because we like them.. we read only the things we like, such as the comics and sports sections of the newspaper.. we even sometimes choose to hear only the advices we'd like to hear.

But God's concept of love is so radically different from ours. We are inclined to go for what is comfortable and to avoid what brings pain. What about God?

God loves what is in our best interest. We are inclined to forgive when we think it is in our best interest. God wants us to forgive when it is in the best interest of someone else. God tells us, "Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good" (Romans 12:9), or another version reads, "Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good".

Well, loving others requires a willingness to forgive. In the same way, whether we like it or not, forgiving others requires a willingness to love... can't run away from either, if we are to let love be made "complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like Him" (1 John 4:17).
So then, how do we know what love is?
God is love.
We love because He first loved us.
The ability to love and forgive can begin only after we have been forgiven by God.

This reminder hit me hard. I've failed terribly in this aspect of love.. to love and forgive when it is in the best interest of another.

God loved everyone. Shouldn't we at least try?
He paid the ultimate price for us on the cross and has chosen to forgive us for all we've done. We're so unworthy of such love and sacrifice. He truly loved us while we were still His enemies. He came to us so that we might come to Him. Such Amazing Love. Such forgiving love.

I'm forgiven, because You were forsaken
I'm accepted, You were condemned
I'm alive and well, Your Spirit is within me
Because You died and rose again

Amazing Love, how can it be
That You my King would die for me
Amazing Love, I know it's true
Now it's my joy to honour You
In all I do, I honour You

Forgiveness is the loving cencellation of a debt. God forgave because He loved.

CNY has come..

It's the time for reunion dinners (or some may have reunion lunches), time for families to get together, time for friends to visit each other's houses, and the tradition that will never die out - angpow giving sessions (it's receiving for our part though.. hehe).

While quite a number of ppl may be travelling back to their respective hometowns, here I am in the city that is unusually quiet during this time of the year - Kuala Lumpur. This yea may not be as quiet as previous years though, since some families have decided to stay back as well - e.g. the Chaks, Lows, Yongs, Lims, Khoos.

So anyway, just hope you'll all have a good new year celebration.. and a prosperous stomach by the end of CNY. Hehe.

BRJ

Good things seldom come cheap.. well at least they don't always come expensive also.

Was trying to find for a parking spot near TBun on Saturday night when I saw a perfect spot just opposite BRJ, which is next to TBun. I actually felt so blessed... until after a game of CS, while we were eating at BRJ and watching Liverpool tear Chelsea appart at the same time, when I suddenly realised that my car was surrounded by BRJ's tables and chairs (well you see, if you haven't been to BRJ, they usually take up the whole road for their mamak business, including the parking spots). I actually thought that the rain would last longer and thus, prevent them from putting their chairs and tables outside. But no, the rain HAD to stop halfway through the football match.

Well, at least the boss of BRJ was kind enough to ask some of his workers to move aside some of the tables and chairs to allow me to get my car out of that parking spot. It was a good thing I was driving the Kancil.. it's small size enabled me to have less difficulty coming out of the now narrow road. SLK rocks man! (SLK = small little Kancil).. Anyway I think the BRJ boss saw Chris, Paul and Simeon also.. so he was scared they may bash him up if he didn't get his machas to help move the tables and chairs... hehe.. joking. He was really kind. Really thank God I didn't have to leave my car there and come back the next day to collect it - the car might no longer be there already if I did.. who knows rite.

So yeah.. learned my lesson. When things seem to be too good to be true, always outweigh its benefits and costs properly before taking action. A perfect parking spot may not be so perfect after all.

A New Year, A New Beginning - 2007!

So this is the time when we look back to see how the previous year has been and look forward toward what can possible be in store for us in the new year.

As for me, the year 2006 has been a very eventful year. There were many 'first times' (such as spending my birthday in the hospital..) and good as well as not-so-good experiences. Whether good or bad, they are all valuable experiences where lessons can be learned.

The most important lesson learnt was that in spite of everything, God is still in control. Things may not work out the way we want them to be.. but well, we can at least be assured that God has our best interest in mind. It's easier to accept that in words than in action, but well, I'm still learning. I'm just glad that He has provided me with a community that would help pull me up and give me a kick-in-the-butt whenever needed to.

Well, we won't know what 2007 will turn out to be. But one thing we can be sure is that we will not walk through it alone. God has promised us that He'll "never leave us, nor forsake us". He has provided us with family and friends to help carry us through as well. So even as we venture into the unknown, let us be assured that He is with us and that He is in charge.

Merry Christmas everyone!

And yes, that includes YOU, who're reading this now.

Hope this Christmas will remind all of us of what God has done for us. Let us all be reminded that He didn't have to come to earth to live among us (to be born in a manger and eventually crucified on the cross), but He did it anyway because He loves us so much and knew that we needed Him to come.. despite many of us thinking otherwise. Indeed, God works in way we do not expect Him to.

Let us also remember that this precious baby that was born in a manger was called "Immanuel" - which means "God with us". Christmas day (25th Dec) may not be the exact date of when Christ was born.. but at least it serves as a great reminder to us that on the day Christ was born, God came to be with us. What a marvelous Christmas gift that was! God, the Almighty, coming to be with us, lowly beings. We were the reason He came down, left His glory, and gave His life for.

We are the reason, that He gave His life
We are the reason, that He suffered and died
To a world that was lost, He gave all He could give
To show us the reason to live

Such amazing grace, such amazing love.

The Letter

Sally jumped up as soon as she saw the surgeon come out of the operating room. She said: "How is my little boy? Is he going to be all right? When can I see him?"

The surgeon said, "I'm sorry. We did all we could, but your boy didn't make it."

Sally said, "Why do little children get cancer? Doesn't God care any more? Where were you, God, when my son needed you?"

The surgeon asked, "Would you like some time alone with your son? One of the nurses will be out in a few minutes, before he's transported to the university."

Sally asked the nurse to stay with her while she said good-bye to son. She ran her fingers lovingly through his thick red curly hair.

"Would you like a lock of his hair?" the nurse asked.

Sally nodded yes.

The nurse cut a lock of the boy's hair, put it in a plastic bag and handed it to Sally. The mother said, "It was Jimmy's idea to donate his body to the university for study. He said it might help somebody else. "I said no at first, but Jimmy said, 'Mom, I won't be using it after I die. Maybe it will help some other little boy spend one more day with his Mom." She went on, "My Jimmy had a heart of gold. Always thinking of someone else. Always wanting to help others if he could."

Sally walked out of Children's Mercy Hospital for the last time, after spending most of the last six months there. She put the bag with Jimmy's belongings on the seat beside her in the car. The drive home was difficult. It was even harder to enter the empty house. She carried Jimmy's belongings, and the plastic bag with the lock of his hair to her son's room. She started placing the model cars and other personal things back in his room exactly where he had always kept them. She laid down across his bed and, hugging his pillow, cried herself to sleep.

It was around midnight when Sally awoke. Laying beside her o n the bed was a folded letter. The letter said:

"Dear Mom, I know you're going to miss me; but don't think that I will ever forget you, or stop loving you, just 'cause I'm not around to say I LOVE YOU. I will always love you, Mom, even more with each day. Someday we will see each other again. Until then, if you want to adopt a little boy so you won't be so lonely, that's okay with me. He can have my room and old stuff to play with. But, if you decide to get a girl instead, she probably wouldn't like the same things us boys do. You'll have to buy her dolls and stuff girls like, you know. Don't be sad thinking about me. This really is a neat place. Grandma and Grandpa met me as soon as I got here and showed me around some, but it will take a long time to see everything. The angels are so cool. I love to watch them fly. And, you know what? Jesus doesn't look like any of his pictures. Yet, when I saw Him, I knew it was Him. Jesus himself took me to see GOD! And guess what!, Mom? I got to sit on God's knee and talk to Him, like I was somebody important. That's when I told Him that I wanted to write you a letter, to tell you good-bye and everything. But I already knew that wasn't allowed. Well, you know what Mom? God handed me some paper and His own personal pen to write you this letter. I think Gabriel is the name of the angel who is going to drop this letter off to you. God said for me to give you the answer to one of the questions you asked Him 'Where was He when I needed him?' "God said He was in the same place with me, as when His son Jesus was on the cross. He was right there, as He always is with all His children.

Oh, by the way, Mom, no one else can see what I've written except you. To everyone else this is just a blank piece of paper. Isn't that cool? I have to give God His pen back now. He needs it to write some more names in the Book of Life. Tonight I get to sit at the table with Jesus for supper. I'm, sure the food will be great.

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you. I don't hurt anymore. The cancer is all gone. I'm glad because I couldn't stand that pain anymore and God couldn't stand to see me hurt so much, either. That's when He sent The Angel of Mercy to come get me. The Angel said I was a Special Delivery! How about that?

Prayer is not just a routine word of thanksgiving before a meal, or a 911 call in times of trouble and need, or a mumbling of sleepy sentences before a quiet time. There is so much more to prayer. Would like to say more but am too sleepy now.. may continue another time.

Hhmm... what's with all these tagging thingy lately?

Anyway as the title suggests, I got tagged again. Not once, but TWICE this time... by 2 different ppl, namely Alicia and Sue Ann, to do the same tag.

[this is tough]

1) I can't stand it when it's too cold or when it's too hot... that is my tolerance for cold and heat is not as good as any normal human being. I think so lah.. hehe.

2) I don't like Coke. I think I don't quite like Pepsi either. Does this pass as weird?

3) I can be really lame sometimes. This is thanks to my 'sifus' Aaron Teo, Joshua Johnson and Oon-Yow, who taught me well.

4) I usually take quite a long time in the shower, compared to a lot of other guys. Hey, can't blame me for wanting to be clean right? Although so, I'll never be able to beat the master of it all, Kin Mun, who can sometimes take up to an hour to bathe.. heheh. Nevertheless, those who will share the same room as me in future camps, be prepared to wait. Haha!

5) I was somewhat addicted to football (soccer) PC games, such as FIFA, Championship Manager, Football Manager. I could spend hours playing them daily. Others will die of boredom. Only the likes of Lukas and Jon Ong can match me in this. Heheh. Not sure if I am still like that though... I've deleted all those games from my PC liao due to insufficient space.

6) Though I'm left-handed, I use my right hand to play sports. So can I be considered as a double-handed person? Heheh. Plus I also use my right leg in football instead of my left, whereas most left-handers I know use their left leg.

Just wanna say a big "THANKS" to all of you who made my birthday special this year.

I thought celebrating it in the hospital was already special in itself actually.. haha!

And yes.. THANKS for all your prayers too. Though I'm not fully 100% recovered yet, I'm feeling way much better than when I was first admitted to Damai Services Hospital.

Special THANKS to all those who visited me at the hospital too.

Among those who visited me were Lukas and Lydia.. who gave me this Body Glove pencil box. Thanks for coming together with Hon Chien and Ruth.

Oh yes... let me introduce you to J-me.

J-me is my first ever teddy bear.

Trust me... I neither named it nor asked for it. But I am thankful for it as it accompanied me while I was on the hospital bed. A good companion I should say.. although it doesn't talk.

The Yong sisters - Ennie and Yennie - deserve a special "thanks" for this. Especially Yennie.. who came and surprised me in the hospital. Totally didn't expect you to come all the way and alone somemore. Brave lah you. Heheh.

This mini Adidas ball is also another first-timer. The first ever ball I've ever got in my life.

Hard to imagine how a football freak like me haven't got a ball his whole entire life until now eh. Heheh.

Doulos

Doulos..

I'm really thankful that I've got the opportunity to finally visit Doulos again!

Can't quite remember when was the last time I stepped into the ship cos I was way younger than I am now. I think I was still in primary school at that time... long time ago.. haha!

So yeah.. 10th July 2006 is a historical date for me. heheh.. visited Doulos together with some church members - Wong bros (Hon Yau & Hon Chien) and the Yong sisters (Ennie & Yennie).

Here are some pics from the Doulos trip (thanks to Hon Yau's new Sony Ericsson):

Look at all the happy faces.. satisfied with the books they got from Doulos. Definitely worth the trip. Shah Alam was indeed a long drive from Tmn Melawati... all thanks to Hon Yau who was willing to drive us there!

Anyway, I'm kinda impressed with all the volunteers at Doulos. Especially those who travel with the ship... some of them willing to sacrifice 1 or 2 years of their studies or work just to help up with missions, going around the world in the Doulos ship. It's not easy to give up some part of your life to serve... but those volunteers are able to do so. Why? How come they can be so willing?

Well, I guess the joy of serving the Lord is what drives them to do so. The fulfilment in seeing God work in their lives. Each of them have different roles to play on the ship... just like in one body, there're many parts.. not all have the same function. It's such a pleasure to see how with all their different roles and gifts, they're able to worship God by offering their bodies as living sacrifices... working together as one. I hope that we'll some day have the chance to serve God in that way too... or in other ways. But yeah.. I've to admit it won't be easy to be willing to serve Him. Many times, I've found myself unwilling to serve 'cos of various reasons. But then, I forgot what God has done for us all when He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to live among us and pay the ultimate price for us at Calvary. God has shown us such unconditional love... why can't I show some gratitude to Him by serving Him? I guess I'll have to constantly ask myself that question.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your
bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spritiual act of worship.
Romans 12:1

1. MU nut? hhmmm.. can't disagree with you on that. Heheh.

2. I think the tougher challenge would be trying to get hold of that book. So far I think the only ppl who have that book are Priscilla, Siaw Lin and Tabby. Priscilla is in a land far, far away from KL. Tabby and Siaw Lin... their books are like precious belongings to them (think the ring in LOTR) - it would be pretty hard to borrow the book from either of them I think.. heheh. But I'll try. Like you said.. siapa tau it'll come in handy.

5. Misconception?... but.. you ARE creative. Aren't you? I still think you are.

7. Really talk? hhmmm.. as in serious close-to-heart stuff? hhmm.. not really lah. I have to admit we're not really close.

I don't think I've ever been to as many farewells as this year. Yesterday we had another farewell... this time it was for Priscilla, Simeon and Wy Leong. The funny thing is that none of them are going any further than Singapore.

Hope you guys enjoyed the farewell..

I've been to 2 camps over the past 2 weeks and I really thank God that I've indeed learned a lot from these 2 camps...

God has thought me how important it is to have a community... a community to support, encourage, teach, scold (hehe.. I need a lot of scolding sometimes), and build each other up.

Wow! Germany lost on home ground.. in the stadium in which they haven't lost, until now... to Italy.

Just when everyone thought the match would go to penalties (again, just as the quarter-final match against Argentina)... THIS suddenly happened.

It came in the 118th minute.. from a conner, which the Germans failed to clear. The ball somehow fell to Grosso, who took the opportunity with a well-taken shot.

The Germans, who only had less than a minute left so save this match, went on the attack.. leaving their defence almost empty.

Del Piero took advantage of that to score with the last kick of the game.

Final score: Germany 0-2 Italy

So the moral of the story...

NEVER GIVE UP!

The Italians didn't give up.. though they were on the disadvantage, since they were playing on German soil.

We'll be surprise what can happen if we keep persevering to the end.

Even if there's only 2 minutes left to do something, don't stop! Keep pushing. Something can happen.

Goodness... haha..

Never ever did I think that I'd ever blog... how unexpected - that I would eventually be influenced by younger friends to start one... thus the existance of a Xanga account...

Never ever did I think that I'd ever succumb to creating another blogging account... not so unexpected - that I would actually end up with a Blogspot account... haha!

Well, I'm not sure if this (the creation of a new blog) would actually encourage me to blog more often though. But I have to admit... Blogspot does have more features compared to Xanga.

Who knows.. maybe (because of the extra features) I would eventually end up blogging more than I used to... or NOT.. haha!
